Tim was born and raised in Rochester Minnesota where he often looked forward to ‘helping’ his father with projects around the house. He graduated from North Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree in Math and Science majoring in Psychology.

Hoping to find warmer weather and a bit more excitement, Tim headed east to Boston after college, where he took his first job at Boston Financial Data Services – a mutual fund account record keeping company. After a couple of years he took a position as a lab technician at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, where he spent several years in the medical field.

In 1998, Tim joined DST, writing COBOL and CICS mainframe programs. He also enrolled in evening classes at Boston University where several years later he earned a Masters in Computer Science. A year later he enrolled in evening classes, again at Boston University, to pursue a Masters in Financial Economics. This led to a position at Mellon Financial, and a stint in the world of corporate finance.

But the lure of ‘helping’ his father around the house proved irresistible, and Tim joined his family in Napa to help organize and manage Porter Family Vineyards. Where he once wrote programs for corporate America, he now writes programs for the vineyard (now in ASP and C#) and works on the company financials.

Tim brings a sense of both curiosity and wonder to the project, much like his father Tom. And Tim shares another of his father’s traits. He is grateful for the opportunities he has had to share and learn from others from many different situations and places in the world. In 2005 he became involved with the Amani Children’s Home in Tanzania. He has supported the Italian Children’s Home in Jamaica Plain (Boston area), and assisted in founding the Friends of Amani Children's Home – US, a non-profit based in the U.S. organized to raise funds for children and orphans living in poverty in Tanzania, Africa.
