Happy New Year from the Porter Family
We hope your holidays have been filled with joy and cheer so far this holiday season. We are looking forward to all the great possibilities 2009 is holding for us at Porter Family Vineyards.
In January, we are excited to be bottling some outstanding wines: Our 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is at its finest, showing beautiful cocoa, baking spices, vanilla, toasty oak, dark cherry and black raspberry characters. A blend of several estate lots, this wine promises to be drinkable early, yet will age to perfection. (Release date: Fall 2009)
The 2006 Sandpiper, a new wine series featuring a blend of unique and interesting barrels from our estate wine lots, will be composed of 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. Fun, complex and rich without being pretentious, this is a wine for both seasoned red wine drinkers and novices alike. Beautiful cherry merlot components are completed by the lush tannins of the Cabernet. (Release date: Fall 2009, only available direct online or at the winery)
2007 presented a unique opportunity for Syrah, and we pulled together an outstanding blend of estate and local Coombsville region fruit to make an incredible 2007 Syrah with all the best, elegant characters of the Porter Family Syrah grapes – dark fruit, opulent, fine-grained tannins, and rich spices. (Release date: Spring 2010; note that the 2006 Syrah will be released Spring 2009)
Our newest and youngest creation is the 2008 Sandpiper Rosé. This stunning, classic rosé was not made with the leftovers from the red wine process, as is a common practice. The grapes were specifically harvested at the correct chemistry for rosé, which means they were picked earlier, at a higher acidity and when the red fruit characters were at their peak. This has resulted in a luscious summer wine full of ripe strawberries, mango, pineapple, and tropical flowers, with bright, crisp acidity and a refreshing finish. (Release date: Spring 2009, only available direct online or at the winery.)
While the winery will be unable to schedule tours from January 15th to the 20th due to bottling activities, we invite you to visit us this winter and enjoy touring the “warm” 59°F environment of our in-cave winery. Chase away those winter blues with a glass of wine among friends! While waiting for our future releases, please enjoy our 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2005 Syrah, which are available online and at the winery.
