What have we been up to??

Porter Family Vineyards in the BIG APPLE!

While some of us held down the fort in Napa, Tim Porter headed off to New York with fellow Napa Valley Vintners. He spent an event filled week making stops in great places like The University Club, Mesa Grill and Belenky Brothers Gallery. He poured wine for hundreds of folks in the trade and media, but he also got a chance to do a special event for consumers at Custom American Wine Bar in New Jersey. We want to thank all of you who stopped by to visit us during these events. It is always nice to run into past guests when we are out visiting different states.

There is a “NEW” wine in our portfolio.

Porter Family Vineyards is proud to announce the bottling of our 2009 Chardonnay. Look for its release in your fall wine club shipment. If you are not a wine club member, sign up now so you can secure your bottle of this wonderful wine. This wine is currently only available thru the wine club or at the winery.

Winter in a Winery

Ever wonder what we do during the winter months at the winery? It is a great time to visit. Beautiful crisp mornings lead to sun soaked afternoons. But just because there is no fruit on the vines doesn’t mean we aren’t hard at work...

The vineyards may be sleeping but our vineyard crew is not. Winter months mean lots of housekeeping chores. The crew will walk the vineyard, monitor rain fall and ground runoff. Make changes to drains and slopes and trellis systems to maintain erosion control and overall vineyard health. Keeping track of weather patterns so that we time the pruning just right; too early and we might get hit by the frost, but too late and we delay bud break and shorten the grapes time on the vine.

Here at Porter Family Vineyards we also do our bottling during the winter months, so inside the cellar is also a busy place. All the wines that are ready to bottle are being moved out of barrels and into tanks. The wines that are still being aged are being carefully watched, racked and topped off. There is an occasional barrel sampling for quality control and blending trials. During January we bottled;

2010 Sandpiper Rosé

2010 PFV Chardonnay

2009 PFV Syrah

2009 Sandpiper Red

2008 PFV Cabernet

Come Visit Us… we would love to see you!

What’s next???

Porter Family Vineyards is proudly participating once again in Premiere Napa Valley 2011

 February 24-26

Porter Family Vineyards winemaker Heather Porter Wolfe and consulting winemaker Ken Bernards have once again come up with a winning blend. Look for our 2009 Duet to be a big hit amongst the bidders.

On February 24, 2011, Porter Family Vineyards along with 6 other Coombsville Vintners will gather to offer select members of the wine trade the opportunity to taste the wines that were created solely for Premiere Napa Valley 2011. This event is by invitation only. (Please contact us if you will be in town and wish to attend.)

Collectors and consumers may not attend this trade event, but if are interested in the Porter Family Vineyards lot, contact a trade attendee prior to the event so they may bid on your behalf. Wine profiles for our 2011 Premiere Napa Valley wines are online. CLICK HERE

We might be headed to a town near you.

We are once again hitting the road. This time we are stopping all over Northern California and Nevada. Watch upcoming emails for details on cities, dates, and times. If you know of a great store, restaurant, retail shop, that you want to see our wines, shoot us an email we will gladly follow up and who knows we may be paying you a visit.
